Do you have a passion for engineering, a flare of problem solving and an enjoyment for fixing (tinkering with) things? Well, we may have an opportunity for you!
We have several apprentice positions within Cardiff Bus to join our established team of engineers and body maintenance professionals, where we will be able to support you as you undertake your apprenticeship awards.
Who are we?
Cardiff Bus is a major provider of bus services within the Cardiff area with over 500 employees and 180 vehicles in our fleet including our brand-new electric buses. Our engineering teams are a pivotal part of our operation in providing great customer service by having a fleet of vehicles that are maintained, serviced and repaired.
What positions are available?
We have an excellent opportunity within our engineering team for several apprentice positions for a 4-year period, starting in September 2023. The positions are based within the areas of Mechanical/Electrical technicians (PSV fitter) and Body maintenance, allowing you to gain experience and knowledge whilst undertaking vocational awards.
What training will I be given?
The training programme will involve gaining work-based practical experience, supported by college-based tutorials and working towards a BTEC/NVQ qualification (or equivalent) in large vehicle maintenance and body repair, normally working towards level 2 and level 3 qualifications.
What qualifications do I need?
Educated to GCSE standard in Mathematics, English and Science you should be able to show a genuine desire to succeed in a long-term automotive engineering career; No previous experience is necessary; however, mechanical/technical awareness is highly desirable. You must be willing to learn, physically fit and enjoy working in a team environment.
What are the benefits for me?
Rates of pay are staged against successful progress throughout the training period. For your first two years you’ll receive £10.90/hr, rising up to £11.90/hr in year 3 and finally to £18.61/hr with shift allowances on completion. Our other great benefits include free travel pass, on-site parking and a dedicated benefits app (HAPI).
