On a summer's day, the views back across the bay towards the Sports Village, Cardiff Bay and the city centre are unrivalled. You can even see into the valleys in the distance, with the imposing Welsh hills rising high above the city. Our Baycar and Skycar will connect you into the Cardiff Bay end of the barrage, with service 305 connecting you into the Penarth Marina end, and services 92/93/94 providing a frequent service if you extend your foray into Penarth town.
As well as the spectacular views, the barrage boasts a landscaped play area, skate park and a sailing club. There's also sculptures, an exhibition about Scott of the Antarctic and the eye-catching artwork 3 Ellipses for 3 Locks.
The Barrage itself is an award winning civil engineering project, which created the freshwater Bay we know today! As a result of the construction of the Barrage and the re-development of the docks area, a multitude of water activities, land based events, new business and visitor attractions have located to Cardiff Bay. The recreational and commercial water users have also benefited from 24hr access to the Bristol Channel, which has doubled the amount of resident moorings at Cardiff’s local yacht clubs. Extending from Penarth headland to Cardiff Docks, this 800m linear embankment link ups with the Inner Harbour via the Bay Edge Walkway.
