St. Fagans Road Closure

Road Closures in Fairwater – 25 July to 31 August 2025

From 18:30 on Friday 25 July until Sunday 31 August 2025 the junction of St. Fagans Road, Cartwright Lane and Fairwater Road (Fairwater Green) will be closed to all traffic. This is to enable culvert maintenance by Cardiff Council.  

This will mean localised diversion to routes 32 and 101/102 which can follow the diversionary route.  Route 61 will follow a longer diversion as the local diversionary route is not suitable for the volume of buses operating on the route  

• Route 32 and 101/102 will divert via Llangattock Road, Bwlch Road, and wellwright road instead over operating along St. Fagans Road.  This will apply in both directions.

• Route 61 – will divert between Romilly Crescent (Canton) and Pentrebane Road via Llandaff Road, Cardiff Road (Palace Road towards Pentrebane), Fairwater Road and Pwllmelin Road in both directions.

Why can’t the 61 follow the same diversion as routes 32 and 101/102?  The diversionary route is not suitable for the volume of buses that operate on route 61, so the nature of the diversion is much greater.

Will you keep me updated with progress?  We will monitor the progress of the works and should these ended ahead of schedule or require a change to our plans we will update this page and our social channels.

Shuttle Bus

A temporary shuttle bus service is being operated by Cardiff Council between Fairwater and Wyndham Crescent to replace the diverted Route 61. This minibus service runs seven days a week, serving key locations including St Fagans Road, Waungron Road, Romilly Road, and Wyndham Crescent.

• Weekdays: From St Fagans Road (Fairwater), first trip at 7:00 AM, 08:05 and then hourly until 18:05 and from Wyndham Crescent, starting at 7:35 until 6:35 PM.

• Saturday: Starts at 8:05 AM (Fairwater) until 17:05 and starts at 8:35 AM (Canton), until 5:35 PM.

• Sunday: Starts at 9:05 AM (Fairwater) until 17:05 and starts at 9:35 AM (Canton),until 5:35 PM.
