February half term is finally here! Whether you have been counting down the days or thinking about things to do with your family this half term, Cardiff Bus have got you covered. This article is full of fun things to do with your family this half term and you can get to all of them with Cardiff Bus.

St. Fagan’s Makers Market

From 18th – 25th February, St Fagan’s are opening their doors to their Makers Market from 10am – 5pm every day. This is event is completely free and is a great opportunity to see some exceptional and authentic Welsh crafting talent. The stalls vary from pottery, jewellery, furniture, and textiles so there is something for everyone!

The Cardiff Story Museum

Let your family travel back in time this half term and experience The Cardiff Story Museum where they will learn about the history of Cardiff through film, photos, stories, and objects. They will learn about how Cardiff progressed from a market town to becoming the capital of Wales, in an event completely free of charge. The museum features a range of interactive galleries to explore. This can be found in the Old Library building at Cardiff Museum and you can get here on any of our city circle services.

Techniquest

Just because half term is here it doesn’t mean that you and your family can’t learn something new! Head down to Techniquest in Cardiff Bay for a wide range of fun and educational activities and shows. From Monday to Friday, you can attend:

  • Bubbles and Blasts, a live science show teaching you all about bubbles and how they are made as well as what can make them blast!
  • Rainbow Reactions, an interactive event where you can discover how to make the world a brighter place through colour!
  • Star Tours, check out Star Tours for a planetarium show that is out of this world! Techniquest’s digital planetarium will take you and your family to outer space and galaxies and exploded stars.

Cardiff Castle

Hop on any route to the city centre and submerge yourself in over 2000 years of history at Cardiff Castle this half term. From wandering the castle grounds to searching for secrets in the castle walls, there is something for everyone at Cardiff Castle!

National Museum Cardiff

Head down to the National Museum Cardiff on any bus to the city centre for exciting exhibitions and memorable masterpieces that are interesting as well as educational. This is a great, cost free day out for all the family to enjoy this half term. With immersive experiences and interactive learning activities, you are guaranteed to keep your family entertained here!

BBC 100 in Wales

Explore 100 years of BBC Welsh history at in the BBC 100 in Wales tour at the National Museum Cardiff from now until 16th April 2023. Take a walk back in time to discover more about how 100 years of media and broadcasting has evolved, and explore the technology, programmes and costumes used in the past. You can see and get photos with iconic props from your favourite shows in this free exhibition.

Montgomery Bonbon: Museum Mystery Trail

Go undercover from 18th – 26th February and put your detective skills to the test at the National Museum Cardiff. Grab an activity sheet, put on your thinking cap to solve puzzles, and enjoy a fun day with your family this half term.

Senedd, Cardiff Bay

If you and your family are interested in exhibitions, you’re in the right place! This exhibition focuses on the history of refugees in Wales from the 1930s until the present day. The exhibition is extremely moving as it includes artworks, objects, photographs, and literature created by refugees, showing an insight into their lives. This exhibition was put together by the Centre for the Movement of People who want to convey refugees’ experiences as well as raise awareness for the issues they faced in Wales.
